Welcome to jims decoy ducks where you can browse the gallery of individually carved birds.
Jim has a working background in construction, boatbuilding and furniture making , most recently fitting out luxury yacht interiors. What these jobs have in common is working with wood which he has developed into the skilled pursuit of making decoys. Qualified to teach adults he may run courses in the near future.
Decoy ducks which were once used as practical hunting tools have now become popular for their decorative qualities. Jims are hand carved from lime or jelutong then painted in a way that represents them and picks up their aesthetic appeal. Their sculptural forms make them delightful decorative objects.
Other birds like gulls, curlews and herons were used alongside duck decoys by hunters. Being easily spooked their presence gave confidence to the wild birds
